The Last and perhaps the Most Exciting Event of San Jose State's 150th Anniversary Celebration is "SJSU: THE PLAY!"

"SJSU: The Play!" will be performed on the University Theatre stage in Hugh Gillis Hall on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday Dec. 7 at 7:00 P.M. The Saturday, Dec. 8, performance will be one hour earlier at 6:00 P.M. Three performances only!

The University Theater is located on San Fernando at 5th, next to the Martin Luther King Library. Buy your tickets at the Event Center Box Office on campus, or online at ticketmaster, or at the door.

The author, T. Edgar Welch, describes "SJSU, The Play!" as "a lyrical performance piece that explores the history and traditions of San Jose State University through music, motion, dramatic scenes, and imagination. Travel back to the university's origin as a normal school, then forward through wars, activism and change, to a future that will be shaped by today's students."

Written by MFA Creative Writing Student T. EDGAR WELCH, the play is being directed by Communication Studies Prof. MATTHEW SPANGLER, who wrote and directed last season's stunning SJSU stage adaptation of "The Kite Runner."

"The play, which was written specifically for the 150th Anniversary, covers the whole history of the University in a brisk, entertaining way," said Prof. Spangler, the director. "It also introduces the audience to the exciting diversity of today's student body."

TRFT faculty members BARNABY DALLAS and SCOTT SUBLETT are producing. "It's got a diverse cast, it's lively, it's entertaining, and even features salsa, Middle Eastern music and a live jazz," said Producer Barnaby Dallas, a faculty member in the Dept. of TV, Radio, Film and Theatre.

"An anniversary like this is literally a once-in-a-lifetime chance - OK, maybe twice in a lifetime if you live to be really, really old - and the opening night is literally days away. Get your tickets immediately or you'll miss it," said Producer Scott Sublett, also a faculty member in the Dept. of TV, Radio, Film and Theatre.

The event brings together student and faculty talent from the Dept. of TV, Radio, Film and Theatre, The Communication Studies Dept., the Dept. of English and Comparative Literature and the School of Music and Dance.
